Station Monitor
GlobalQuake provides a dedicated Station Monitor that lets you inspect raw and filtered seismic data from any station on the globe. This is useful for verifying detections, investigating anomalies, or simply observing ground motion in real time.
Opening a Monitor
Click any station marker on the globe to open the Station Monitor panel. The panel fills a portion of the screen and displays live waveform data for the selected station.
Press Escape at any time to close the monitor and return to the main globe view.
Reading Waveforms
The Station Monitor presents three types of graphs:
- Waveform graph — the raw seismic signal as recorded by the station.
- Ratio graph — a derived signal used to assess energy or amplitude ratios over time.
- Event detection graph — highlights moments where the system identified a potential seismic event.
All graphs update in real time as new data streams in. You can scroll horizontally to browse recent history within the displayed window.
Using Filters
The monitor includes a real-time band-pass filter controlled by a frequency slider. Adjust the slider to isolate specific frequency bands, which can help distinguish seismic signals from noise or study particular frequency content of an event.
Lower frequency settings emphasize distant or deep events, while higher settings highlight local or shallow activity.
Station States
Stations appear on the globe with different visual states:
When you open the monitor for a dead station, you will see limited or no waveform data. Switch to an active station to observe live signals.
